Knowing the Feds are watching over me
.... I sleep so much better. Here's an item from The New York Times:
The Food and Drug Administration, widely criticized for lax inspection of domestic and imported foods, responded to several outbreaks of food-borne illness this year by spending $300,000 to hire a public relations agency to "create and foster a lasting positive image" for the FDA.
Well, $300,000 is merely some small change compared to the $85 billion for AIG and the $700,000,000,000 we putting on the table to salvage the economy. But you know, it mounts up.

Yes, because really it's a PR problem, not a real problem. Are we really surprised?
Oh you are so reality based in your world view. Have a little faith. If you believe something hard enough, it must be true.
Or if you say it often enough. Which means John McCcin really does have a back love child somewhere and Barak Obama really is a terrorist. If enough people agree it must be true, it therefore is true.
Wikiality rules. The African elephant isn't endangered if we all tell Wikipedia it's making a comeback. Hey presto -- we can save the African elephant. It's all so simple....
Well - yeah, in a post-modern world. I, however, like my brother Jesse the Confederate nut, have yet to quite reach the 20th century, much less the post-modern stage of it.
You know, the world was really much lovelier back around l'an mil (as Joey's favorite Europeans would say).
