An addendum to transportation in San Fran
I was pretty well convinced that the Segway Scooters were simply toys - great for a tour while on vacation but not for much else. Then on our way through downtown San Francisco to get to the airport for our flight home, I saw a distinguished man with gray hair and beard (looked a bit like me) wearing a business suit calmly riding his Segway up the street in front of us.

Just imagine using one to try to climb up your mountain, though!
Believe me, I have!
And if you think the thought of going up is bad, consider going down on one of those little things, dodging run-away trucks with nothing between me and the truck except my suit!
I've also considered an electric car but they couldn't pull up the mountain and still have a charge left.
So - gas is still the way to go.
