In Ireland a re-date has pushed back the date of a recently discovered burial site. Irish hyperbole ensues.

Researchers said a journey back to 7th century Ireland could reveal some surprising
similarities to recent boom times in the country.

Dr Aidan O’Sullivan of UCD school of archaeology said: “This society that emerges out of the darkness of late prehistory was the first Celtic Tiger economy.

It's fun though. Ireland before the Scandinavians messed it up.

not that there is any Norse DNA in the present population. No sir. We're all Celts here.

Well this certainly explains Minnesota

Danes tend to be healthy, married and active — all contributing factors to happiness. But why, researchers wondered, are Danes happier than Finns and Swedes, who share many of these traits, not to mention a similar culture and climate? The answer is, in a word, expectations. Danes have low expectations and so “year after year they are pleasantly surprised to find out that not everything is rotten in the state of Denmark,” says James W. Vaupel, a demographer who has investigated Danish bliss.

My emphasis btw. Of course, you would have had to live in Minnesota for a few years to really understand this post.

One of our faithful readers has published a book about the vikings. Vikings in Ireland, in fact. They're the guys who founded Dublin, btw. Anyway it looks like a great book. Has a picture of a viking ship on the front and everything (the author modestly declines all credit for the viking ship pic). If you like vikings, or pirates, you should buy this book.

Vikings! The true story

Well, I am back from that steaming hellhole to our south, just a few steps ahead of the hurricane. Now, at least for a few days, I will be all tied up with school work. But I have discovered a wonderful explanation of the Viking invasions, right here.

It's as convincing as anything else I can think of.

Angry Revolutionary Kitty - my new love

After having looked at the cute little kitty over at Obsidian Wings about 6 or 7 times, I am now in love with Sniper Kitty. She looks just like our little gray cat, the one we thought was a little boy and named Mosby after a Confederate war hero. So Mosby would understand, even though, or perhaps because, she is a little girl cat. I myself tear up every time I see the glint of sunlight on the sniper scope.

Just for the record, we keep Mosby well away from the firearms.
